I have a Bachelor's degree in Chemistry. I have over 35 years of using the principles of science on the job, including 26 years working for the California Department of Justice as a forensic scientist. My entire career has been in a laboratory setting where the scientific method was used as part of my job duties. As a forensic scientist, one of my primary duties was to testify in court as an expert witness and explain to the court the steps that I used to draw conclusions and render an opinion. I qualified as an expert in court at least 500 times. Also, my examination of various types of evidence required the use of scientific instruments including a Gas Chromatograph Mass Spectrometer (GC/MS), stereo microscope, infrared spectrometer, breath alcohol instruments and various wet chemistry techniques. So, to make a long story short, I've spent most of my scientific career explaining how science works to the layperson.
