I'm an
Individual
Why Choose Me? Education: • I have three degrees, including two advanced degrees Experience: • I have over 10 years of work experience in the biomedical and engineering fields • I have communicated complex material to a variety of audiences including staff cardiologists, US Naval personnel ranging from petty officers to an Admiral, medical residents, first and second year undergraduate students, and, of course, high school students in tutorial sessions. Customer-Centric: • I come to you (house, apartment or public library), you don't have to come to my location • I have multiple prepared notes and presentations in biology and chemistry and can make some for other subjects Transparency/Openness: • I have copies of my university transcripts and can prove my credentials, and will have OCT certification in December Pricing: $35 per hour or $60 for a two hour session, plus $5 travel if farther than 10 km from L8L 6M3 Studying Strategies: Studies have shown that students remember (both spoken and shown) information from the beginning and end of a class. This means you (as a student) should study the material in the MIDDLE of the notes with a greater emphasis than material at the end of the lecture. There is a name for such a phenomenon: The serial position effect (see graph attached to the ad). There are other strategies involving such as the optimal time of day and week to study. When we meet in person we can talk about them. Information for Parents: How do you choose a tutor? Here are several things you should ask each prospective tutor: 1. What are you credentials? Do you have proof, such as a copy of your transcript? 2. Are you a member of the Ontario College of Teachers? If so, what is your OCT number? 3. Do you have the contact for any references (parents of students you've tutored)? 4. Think of a difficult scenario to ask the prospective tutor. One example is "What would you do if a student asks you a question and you don't know the answer or are not sure about how to solve a problem?" 5. Finally, how much useful information is there in the advertisement? The advertisement is an extension of the tutor. The information within an advertisement is an indicator of the tutorial sessions.
