While the preschool curriculum is designed keeping in mind the physical and intellectual developmental characteristics of 2 -- 5 year olds, there are certain milestones that most preschoolers should achieve before they begin kindergarten. From reading and art to math and science, preschoolers learn something about everything. preschoolers learn, understand and use a wide variety of new words. They learn to read and write and can identify sounds. The math curriculum for preschool includes teaching the little ones to count, measure, identify and create patterns, use number and word symbols, and more. The most fun of all subjects is the art and craft curriculum for preschoolers. Children get a hang of expressing themselves through art, and drawing and coloring activities strengthen their motor development. KINDERGARTENERS Kindergarteners can read and write all the letters of the alphabet, in both uppercase as well as lowercase letters. They can write simple sentences and identify rhyming words. The math curriculum for kindergarteners includes teaching them to sort objects based on one or more attributes, recognizing and writing numbers from 0 to 30, telling time to the nearest hour, and recognizing patterns and shapes. Kindergarteners can also do some basic addition and subtraction by using manipulatives and can recognize the different denominations of money. While this is the time when their vocabulary expands and they form their foundations in the various subjects, it is important to identify the problems that some kindergarteners might face at this stage. Allowing enough time and resource in the kindergarten curriculum for revision will help parents and teachers gauge the ability and learning levels of the little ones. 1st Grade Number and Operations in Base Ten  Using a calendar  Counting a set of objects up to 20 by 1s  Counting, comparing, and ordering numbers  Adding and subtracting 1  Counting backwards  Addition equations using standard notation Geometry  Describing, naming, sorting, and comparing 2-D shapes  Decomposing shapes in different ways  Identifying common attributes of a group of shapes  Identifying, describing, and making triangles and quadrilaterals Operations and Algebraic Thinking  Using a number line as a tool for counting forward and backward  Solving problems in which the total and one part are known  Finding and exploring relationships among combinations of numbers up to 10  Introducing subtraction  Working with addition and subtraction equations Collecting and Representing Data  Describing and using attributes to sort a set of objects  Interpreting results of a data investigation  Making a representation to communicate the results of a survey  Making sense of data representations, including pictures, bar graphs, tallies, and Venn diagrams  Exploring survey data Geometry & Measurement  Understanding what length is and how it can be measured  Comparing lengths  Naming, notating, and telling time to the hour on a digital and an analog clock  Measuring length by repeating a single unit  Learning the terms fraction, half, and halves  Portioning a whole into equal parts and naming each part with a fraction to represent halves and fourths  Naming, notating, and telling time to the half hour using an analog and a digital clock Number and Operations in Base Ten  Identifying, reading, writing, and sequencing numbers to 120  Counting and combining things that come in groups of 2, 4, 5, and 10  Comparing two-digit numbers and using notation () to record the results of the comparison  Adding and subtracting 10 to and from 2-digit numbers Geometry  Develop vocabulary to describe 3-D shapes and their attributes  Compare size, shape, and orientation of objects  Matching a 3-D object to a 2-D outline of one of its faces  Describing characteristics of 3-D shapes Operations and Algebraic Thinking  Generating equivalent expressions for a number  Developing strategies for solving problems with unknown change/start  Reasoning about more, less, and equal amounts  Connecting written numbers and standard notation  Using the equal sign to show equivalent expressions  Visualizing, retelling, and modeling the action in addition and subtraction situations 2nd Grade Math, English and Science Curriculum 3rd Grade Math, English and Science Curriculum 4th Grade Math, English and Science Curriculum 5th Grade Math, English and Science Curriculum 6th Grade Math, English and Science Curriculum 7th Grade Math, English and Science Curriculum ALL Lessons are $20/hour Lesson location : Orland Park Public Library 1st class free trial.
