Hello, I am offering English tutoring classes to those wishing to improve their English for work, business or play. I teach writing, reading, speaking as well as business and casual conversation. I am a native English speaker who taught conversation and TOEFL preparation to children and adults for three years at a top learning academy in Asia. I graduated from UC Berkeley and worked in finance for most of my career. I'm doing this mostly because I love teaching and want to start again. As a tutor, I think learning should be serious but fun and I will make our lessons as interesting and fun as can be. As a teacher... -I believe learning the culture is important too. To understand a language and have natural conversations with native speakers, one must understand their culture as well. This is important in the business world where sales or promotions may depend on good relationships. -I tailor the lesson to the appropriate aspect. For instance, if a student's lesson focuses on writing, we will also focus a lot on grammar. On the other hand, if I am teaching conversation, I emphasize speed, pronunciation and idioms instead of grammar. For conversation, I believe a student should first become comfortable thinking and speaking quickly in a foreign language without fear of making grammatical mistakes. I encourage fearless learning. -I tailor the lesson to the student. I believe that everybody learns differently and it is important that a teacher find the learning style that works best for the student. Some people are visual learners and others are verbal, some students remember better through writing and others through conversation.
