Students will work on skills to increase their fluency and build vocabulary. I will work with your child to make grade-level content relevant by building prior knowledge and linking current schema. Students will work on Common Core standards of asking/answering questions and drawing conclusions in order to enhance comprehension. Math: Mathematic concepts are built upon each other, therefore, if your child is currently struggling in this area, he/she needs more time to practice previous skills. The classroom teacher can only spend so much time reviewing skills before needing to move forward. I will help build the solid foundation that your child needs in order to succeed. Foundational skills include: numbers and operations, algebra, geometry, measurement, data analysis, and problem solving. Your child will learn to recognize and make visual representations of these concepts and begin to shape their thinking into concrete understanding.  Writing: As you may already know, many school systems are beginning to focus on writing due to the addition of a writing component on the state tests. Instead of multiple choice or fill in the blank questions, students are seeing more open-ended response questions on tests. These are questions that are expected to be answered with complete sentences and supporting evidence. While practicing the different writing formats (narrative, informational, opinion, and response), your child will be able to work on creating complex sentences, grammar, punctuation, developing ideas, creating outlines, proofreading, and revising.
