I'm an
Individual
I am in the dissertation writing phase of my PhD in Spanish Literature from UC Irvine. My BA is in Spanish and Portuguese from Georgetown University. As a graduate student, I have taught introductory, intermediate and advanced Spanish language to college students at UC Irvine. I have also taught Latin American Film at the University of Portland, OR. I have tutored extensively in Spanish and limited French, as well as language arts and writing. As a tutor, I assess my students' needs and design a program for that individual, whether that be in a supporting role, providing grammar, writing, reading, speaking, listening help to students enrolled in courses, or whether it be as primary instructor. In all cases, my Spanish pedagogical approach is one based in contextualized language learning, meaning that all lessons are grounded in real use and rich cultural material, rather than random fill in the blank sentences which have no significance. My background in literature, film studies, and art history, as well as my knowledge of current events in the Spanish-speaking world, all provide my students with rich opportunities to learn and improve their Spanish skills in deep and meaningful ways. My rate is $50 per hour if students are able to meet me in Greenwich Village. If not, I can travel to you and we can negotiate a fair additional travel rate.
